Foam rolling is a self-myofascial release (SMR) technique that is used by athletes and physical therapists to inhibit overactive muscles. Historically, since as recent as 2005, the first foam roller was patented for use as a therapy tool for self-myofascial release muscle therapies. Later on, the use of balls as massage tools was also common to target smaller and more specific areas of the body.

Benefits of foam rolling have to do with the mobility of the fascia. Fascia is a fibrous layer of connective tissue that surrounds all of the muscles in our body. Without proper mobility, fibers of the fascia become cross linked and they bind to muscles and nerves, inhibiting normal motion and causing pain.

The EPP Massage Ball is perfect for targeting smaller points on the body such as the neck, shoulders and chest which are harder to access with a foam roller.
